April 29, 2022

We cover a bit of ground this Saturday in the hopes of finding a winner or three. Morphettville kicks of the SA Carnival with the Group 1 Australasian Oaks meeting, the Winter Carnival from Brisbane edges closer with the running of key lead up races, Hawkesbury host their Gold Cup stand-alone meeting, plus plenty more racing action from coast to coast.

Speaking of carnivals firing up, the Wagga Wagga Carnival starts next Thursday and we’re running a punters club for the two days with the one and only John Scorse! Keep yours eyes peeled early next week for more details.

This time of year the footy is in full swing and you can check out our previews and suggested bets for this round here:

Eagle Farm Race 7 – G2 Qld Guineas – 1600m

#1 Coastwatch – $6.50/$2.40

It usually pays to follow Chris Waller’s 3yo’s this time of year in Brissie and this bloke looks no exception. Last prep he was right on the heels of Hilal, then 1st up this prep he won at Caulfield before not letting down on the soft tracks in Sydney. He’s been freshened for this and will appreciate this class and the firmer tracks. Over the odds and play each way.

Eagle Farm Race 8 – G2 Victory Stakes – 1200m

#11 Startantes – $9.50/$2.90

I can understand why Rothfire is all the rage but looks short enough now considering he’s returning from a long injury lay off. Startantes is a 3 yo filly taking on open class horses but her last run in Sydney was outstanding. She’s had a spin at the trials since and with Rothfire rolling them along up front, she’ll get enough speed in the race to be running on at the end. Each way.

Morphettville Race 6 – G3 Chairman’s Stakes – 2000m

#4 Harleymoven – $2.15

This bloke looks an absolute beast! Had the run of the race last start but couldn’t have been more impressive. Won’t get any favours from the wide gate but we haven’t seen the best of him yet, he looks to have tremendous upside. As long as they are running on, he’ll be very hard to beat. I think he’ll win this and then be very hard to beat in the SA Derby. Use your ODDS BOOST if you can!

Morphettville Race 7 – G1 Australasian Oaks – 2000m

#14 So You See – $13/$4.20

We’ll get a guide to her chances when Yaphet goes around in the race prior, he just pipped her on the line last start. Prior to that run she started a $2.70 favourite at Moonee Valley and was caught very wide on a night you needed to be on the fence. Blinkers first time and a real sense of timing with her. She looks set to run well in what is a very open affair.

Hawkesbury Race 7 – G3 Hawkesbury Guineas – 1400m

#1 Mr Mozart – $2.35

He brings the best form lines having won his last two in group company. He loves to bowl along up on speed and that can be advantageous around the tricky Hawkesbury circuit. Just needs to run up to his last two efforts to win again.

Hawkesbury Race 8 – G3 Hawkesbury Crown – 1300m

#10 Brookspire – $2.70

She has an excellent record 1st up and I expect that to improve in this. Her trial was very good and just needs to run up to her 1st up runs in her last two preps to be winning. She’ll race on speed and has J Mac.

Hawkesbury Race 9 – G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup – 1600m

#7 Imaging – $8/$2.90

Happy to forgive his 1st up failure at Newcastle where he was well supported but didn’t go a yard in the very heavy conditions. Subsequently trialled pretty well and importantly, J Mac sticks. From the good gate, he can settle just behind the speed and look to run over them late. Each way.

Good punting!
